The home detention order was introduced in the Czech legal practice in 2010. The Criminal Code defines two forms of monitoring the punishment – via random inspections carried out by a probation officer and via electronic monitoring. In the first five years of the existence of the punishment, the Probation and Mediation Service carried out 45.500 random inspections. The electronic monitoring system implementation started in October 2017 and the system was launched in September 2018. The probation officer monitors other reasonable obligations and restrictions imposed by the court, most often it is alcohol testing. A probation officer motivates the offender to lead a law-abiding life and offers help with problems (usually with unemployment, overindebtedness, substance addictions etc.).
